The Gold Box.. The Truth About Time

I'd like to share with you a special email I received today.

The Gold Box

A young man learns what's most important in life from the guy next door.

It had been some time since Jack had seen the old man. College, girls, career, and life itself got in the way. In fact, Jack moved clear across the country in pursuit of his dreams.

There, in the rush of his busy life, Jack had little time to think about the past and often no time to spend with his wife and son. He was working on his future, and nothing could stop him.

Over the phone, his mother told him, "Mr. Belser died last night. The funeral is Wednesday." Memories flashed through his mind like an old newsreel as he sat quietly remembering his childhood days.

"Jack, did you hear me?"

"Oh, sorry, Mom. Yes, I heard you. It's been so long since I thought of him. I'm sorry, but I honestly thought he died years ago," Jack said.

"Well, he didn't forget you. Every time I saw him he'd ask how you were doing. He'd reminisce about the many days you spent over 'his side of the fence' as he put it," Mom told him.

"I loved that old house he lived in," Jack said.

"You know, Jack, after your father died, Mr. Belser stepped in to make sure you had a man's influence in your life," she said

"He's the one who taught me carpentry," he said. "I wouldn't be in this business if it weren't for him. He spent a lot of time teaching me things he thought were important...Mom, I'll be there for the funeral," Jack said.

As busy as he was, he kept his word. Jack caught the next flight to his hometown. Mr. Belser's funeral was small and uneventful. He had no children of his own, and most of his relatives had passed away.

The night before he had to return home, Jack and his Mom stopped by to see the old house next door one more time.

Standing in the doorway, Jack paused for a moment. It was like crossing over into another dimension, a leap through space and time. The house was exactly as he remembered. Every step held memories. Every picture, every piece of furniture....Jack stopped suddenly.

"What's wrong, Jack?" his Mom asked.."The box is gone," he said. "What box?" Mom asked.

"There was a small gold box that he kept locked on top of his desk. I must have asked him a thousand times what was inside. All he'd ever tell me was 'the thing I value most,'" Jack said. It was gone. Everything about the house was exactly how Jack remembered it, except for the box.. He figured someone from the Belser family had taken it.

"Now I'll never know what was so valuable to him," Jack said. "I better get some sleep. I have an early flight home, Mom."

It had been about two weeks since Mr. Belser died. Returning home from work one day Jack discovered a note in his mailbox. "Signature required on a package. No one at home. Please stop by the main post office within the next three days," the note read.

Early the next day Jack retrieved the package.

The small box was old and looked like it had been mailed a hundred years ago. The handwriting was difficult to read, but the return address caught his attention. "Mr. Harold Belser" it read.

Jack took the box out to his car and ripped open the package. There inside was the gold box and an envelope. Jack's hands shook as he read the note inside. "Upon my death, please forward this box and its contents to Jack Bennett. It's the thing I valued most in my life." A small key was taped to the letter. His heart racing, as tears filling his eyes, Jack carefully unlocked the box. There inside he found a beautiful gold pocket watch.

Running his fingers slowly over the finely etched casing, he unlatched the cover. Inside he found these words engraved: "Jack, Thanks for your time! -Harold Belser."

"The thing he valued most was...my time"

Jack held the watch for a few minutes, then called his office and cleared his appointments for the next two days. "Why?" Janet, his assistant asked. "I need some time to spend with my son," he said. "Oh, by the way, Janet, thanks for your time!"

"Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take but by the moments that take our breath away,"
Think about this. You may not realize it, but it's 100% true.

1. At least 2 people in this world love you so much they would die for you..

2. At least 15 people in this world love you in some way.

3. A smile from you can bring happiness to anyone, even if they don't like you.

4. Every night, SOMEONE thinks about you before they go to sleep.

5. You mean the world to someone.

6. If not for you, someone may not be living.

7. You are special and unique.

8. When you think you have no chance of getting what you want, you probably won't get it, but if you trust God to do what's best, and wait on His time, sooner or later, you will get it or something better.

9. When you make the biggest mistake ever, something good can still come from it.

10. When you think the world has turned its back on you, take a look: you most likely turned your back on the world.

11. Someone that you don't even know exists loves you.

12. Always remember the compliments you received. Forget about the rude remarks.

13. Always tell someone how you feel about them; you will feel much better when they know and you'll both be happy.

14. If you have a great friend, take the time to let them know that they are great.

And to everyone "Thanks for your time".

Dear? Did you see that deer?

Tomorrow (11/15) will be a busy day around our household. The guys will be up by 4 am and off to breakfast by 5 am to get ready for opening day of this year's deer hunting season.

Excitement, anticipation and the joy of the hunt will make it very hard to sleep tonight. I'm sure they're dreams will be full of memories from past hunts and hope that they will at least see a deer tomorrow. Their goal is to put meat in the freezer for the upcoming winter. To be able slow cook a venison roast all day with potatoes and veggies is something worth waiting for. Simply delicious:)

Mega Mart Outlet Store has this wonderful deer home decor item for 20% off this week. Click the picture for more details.

Thanks for stopping by and have a great day.

Fall in the "Fall"

Don't you just love the fall season? All the great colors of nature coming alive for just a little while to enjoy because soon it will all be gone and those white little things will start falling from the sky (otherwise known as snow)..lol.

The colors were so vibrant on our trip to the UP, that I actually was in awe. It really makes you stop and think about how busy our lives can get that you don't take the time to actually see what's there. We take things for granted alot and sometimes you just need to slow down and look and realize just what we've been missing.

My advice? Stop, take a pause and just look around because soon you may see this

Have a wonderful Fall day!

Halloween Pumpkins All Aglow

We are coming up on Halloween. A time of carving pumpkins, making costumes, buying candy and going "Trick or Treat"ing.

Halloween was always one of my favorite times of year. The kids and I would decorate the house with handmade ghosts and goblins. Spiderwebs would be everywhere and our carved pumpkins would be welcoming our trick or treaters. Every year we'd carve 4 pumpkins some were funny or scary, crazy faces, upside faces and happy faces. Oh, the fun we had with 'innards' fights and the mess we'd made!

Black cats and cauldrens, scarecrows and cornstalks surrounding by bales of hay and leaves created the perfect outdoor platform to display our pumpkins when the kids were young. As the years progressed and the kids got older we started to go towards the scarier decorations like the Grim Reaper Skull with Candle Lantern. Super Awesome is what our son always called it.

Those were the days and here's to another safe and Happy Halloween to all!

New Addition to Our Family

It all started on Dec 26, 2009 when my husband and I received a call from our Son and Daughter-in-law that we'd have to make room at our Christmas dinner table next year because they just did the test and WHAM...we're pregnant!! We didn't think it was ever going to happen, but miracles do happen.

Fast Forward a few months...or we should really say a few long, long months...and now we have a beautiful, happy, healthy baby Grandson weighing in at 7lbs, 7oz.

And of course, I couldn't wait to get my hands on that little boy, but I also knew that the new, first time parents had to have some time to get acquainted with their new son, and time to adjust to having him home....so I gave them a week...lol.

The minute we arrived at their house, my daughter-in-law immediately let me hold him. And hold him I did for almost 1 hour. Just watching him stretch and scrunch up his little nose from time to time really wanted to make me cry because I was so happy for them. The cutest thing he did was when he opened one eye, just long enough to see who was holding him and fell back to sleep. Simply incredible.

We will definitely have no problem making room for this little guy this coming Christmas. I already have the perfect gift for him. A Silly Steer piggy bank because it's never too early to start his college fund.

Our RSS Feed is now active

We've learn something new at Bonanzle's Forums this week and it was all about RSS feed so we can bring some of the items we sell into our blog.

What we have done is create two(2) rss feeds within our blog. The first one shows just 3 random items from Our Webstore on Bonanzle which will be on all blog postings.

The second rss feed has it's own page (More Webstore Inventory under Pages) that will display 50 items from our Webstore. They will be in order as when they were listed, newest first. This is still an example of what we sell and there's more in our booth at Bonanzle, so come take a look.

T-Shirt Sayings

I received a catalog in the mail the other day and just had to laugh at all the t-shirt sayings that they have to offer. Maybe they will make you chuckle too.

Just to name a few:
"I'm not Short, I'm Fun-sized"
"Growing old is Mandatory, Growing up is Optional"
"Inside every person is a younger person wondering what the hell happened"
"I live at the corner of Kiss My Grass Avenue and No Frigging Way"
"Let me drop everything and work on your problem"
"My Indian name is Yes Dear"
"DILLIGARA" (Meaning: (DoILookLikeIGiveARatsAss"))
and my favorite of all:
"OMG, My Mother was Right about Everything"

I think a few of these are really true if you think about them. How many do you think are truisms? Anyway, I hope you chuckled a little.

Have a great day:)
